Anita Baadjies Leads "Fashion Lab" Project to Promote Emerging Local Talent

What a phenomenal project to network and promote emerging talent with industry mentors - and it's led by acclaimed SA hairstylist Anita Baadjies, owner of Hair at the Hub, Pretoria.

This project connects experts in the fashion industry with emerging talent. Township based designers, creative producers, runway photographers, hair stylists, make-up artists, fashion stylists and models receive direct access to mentoring and practical experience in the fashion with industry mentors such as David Tlale, Deon Redman, Reze Bonna, Bisi Sowemimo, Tamika Lai Wing and Anita Baadjies.

A series of master classes and mentoring culminated in a fashion show staged by the industry professionals in partnership with the emerging creative talent on 26 March 2022 at the SA Creative Industries Incubator in Eersterust, Tshwane.

The hair products for this event were sponsored by Wella Professionals.

The Fashion Lab project is the brainchild of the SA Creative Industries Incubator (SACII), a township based creative hub that provides incubation, business development support and market access opportunities for creative entrepreneurs.

"Our aim is to normalize access for emerging creatives in our communities to the wealth of opportunities available in the creative sector," says Beth Arendse, SACII's director.

SACII believes investment in this sector is critical to the recovery of the country's economy. "The creative economy has the ability to create meaningful economic opportunities, particularly for young people," says Arendse.

The objective of the programme is to develop entrepreneurial and business capacity, impart skills and expose emerging designers, production practitioners, models etc. to industry professionals and markets.

Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful initiative! A huge thanks for Anita of Hair At The Hub for your tireless work and inspiring leadership, and to Wella Professionals for being a sponsor of this event!
