Style Inspiration: Shadow by Kelly Manu

I only realized midway through building this collection and preparing for the shoot what the true underlying concept of my inspiration was. Originally, I was drawn to crafting elevated, gritty black-and-white looks, but subconsciously, this collection became a way for me to express my personal grief and seek solace through my work. I was using hair as a medium and the power of a working together with a talented team to heal from my father's passing.

The "shadow" self represents the hidden aspects of our emotions and the facade we present to the world while concealing our pain. As the world relentlessly keeps spinning and life moves forward, this collection reflects the struggle between maintaining outward appearances and navigating internal turmoil. Each detail symbolizes a step towards healing and transformation. Despite the shadows and the ongoing passage of time, there is profound light in turning grief into beauty, showcasing resilience and the ability to find moments of joy amid sorrow.
