This Month’s Adventures in Real Shipboard Spa Life: Cruising the World
Mervin Arthur Naidoo is from Pietermaritzburg, KZN and at 47 years old, has been a qualified hairstylist for 28 years, working in South Africa. He is currently enjoying a contract on a fantastic world cruise aboard the ISLAND PRINCESS. He is sharing his exciting experiences and photos with us about the onboard life!
I have been so blessed to travel to countries around the world and to see the sights and wonders they have to offer!
This contract is a world adventure – starting from Cairns, Australia and making our way through the ports of the world, one by one.
Our cruise began by taking us from Northern Australia through magical Indonesia. The Kimodo Islands, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka to start!
This is THE LOTUS SPA. This is where I get to work every day. I have the best view!
First stop: Kimodo dragon island. Indonesia
This was a fascinating experience. Kimodo dragons are dangerous – The can smell blood from a distance away. They are like sharks on land!
Singapore the Beautiful
So on our scheduled day off, we got off to explore the beautiful Singapore. So clean. Flowers and trees everywhere. Even inside the malls and shops! Absolutely stunning.
The Botanical Gardens were absolutely amazing!

Because it was a tender port, I couldn’t get off the ship, and had to work the morning. We left quite early at 5pm. My friends took an amazing video while we lounged around the pool!
Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Colombo and Sri Lanka are incredible with Buddha and Indian temples. It’s like an old city with new developments. All the people were friendly and welcoming.
