South Africa Moves to Adjusted Alert Level 1

With the announcement last night by President Cyril Ramaphosa that South Africa would move to Adjusted Alert Level 1, effective midnight, we’re overjoyed that some sort of normalcy in life can resume! We can dine out, we can indulge in a few more of the more enjoyable things in life, economic positivity can continue, and SA can rebuild after a long, long eighteen months.

However, the risk remains and the threat still looms of a fourth wave of the Delta Variant or any new ones that may make their way to South African shores, a wave that may worsen into the upcoming holiday season.

The only way to avoid this and prevent more loss of life is to increase the numbers of the vaccinated population of SA and continue stringent protocol measures in our salons and spas, between stylists and clients. We can’t relax just yet! Vaccination is being shown around the world to reduce your risk of severe illness, hospitalisation, ICU treatment or death from Covid-19.

Until we hear differently regarding the gazetted health protocol measures regarding salons and spas, all safety measures will continue as we’ve been following them. Masks are still mandatory and sanitising, social distancing and management of salon capacity are in order, with no serving of beverages or food in salons to clients. When we know of any changes to those measures, we’ll let you know as soon as possible!

Meanwhile, vaccination is the key element in the fight against covid and a safe, sustainable industry.

Stay safe!

Current Vaccine Rollout Results from President Ramaphosa’s announcement last night:

  • Over 17 million doses have been administered

  • Over 8.3 million people are fully vaccinated

  • 1/5, or 20% of adult population, an amazingly successful stat in the global community

  • 30% of the adult population has received at least one dose

  • We need to administer another 16 million vaccines this year to reach our goal

  • We need 250 000 first dose vaccinations a day to meet our target

  • Vooma Vaccination weekend kicks off tomorrow.

  • You can walk in to any vaccination site and go get your jab.

Next week, we hear again from a well respected voice in the industry!
