The Game Is On: Enter The #gameofwella Colour Specialist Competition

Welcome to the #gameofwella: Here, your hairdressing skills will be tested, your colouring techniques challenged, and you'll have the chance to be the ultimate Wella winner.

Enter the game if you dare – whether you're a Wella or non-Wella stockist - and be sure to present your best understanding of contrasting light and dark. That is your best commercial, wearable Balayage.

Ladies and gentlemen your colour craft may put you in the running to be the #gameofwella Colour Specialist of the Year 2021. Modern Hair & Beauty's FIRST EVER Digital hair competition rumoured to be the Instagram highlight of the year – and the most coveted title of the industry.

It's game on for salons and stylists across South Africa – all you have to do is post your best before/after look, together with the correct #, formula and technique on Instagram and keep your fingers crossed.

The competition is open to anyone qualified as a hairdresser and working in a salon. All non-Wella entrants will be provided with a Wella colour box so that you can create a stunning Balayage with Wella Professionals colour and styling. You'll need to fill in the downloadable registration form, return it, and follow the Rules & Regulations before posting.

If you're a Wella stylist, you'll only need to follow the competition Rules & Regulations on the Modern Hair & Beauty website and post your before/after looks on Instagram.

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs for both Wella and Non-Wella entrants. Win your share of over R170 000, Wella Professional colour stock, or a place at the Destination Event 2021.

Voting will open to the public, to select the winners for the People's Choice Award alongside the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winners.

The competition

The competition celebrates both stylists' skills and the diversity of beauty with Wella. The #gameofwella competition allows you to set the tone for coming trends while accentuating your model's natural beauty.

Based on the shift we've seen in how trends develop: Not set by experts, designers, or fashion houses. But instead on the principle of connection, ignited conversations, and sharing opinions.

The #gameofwella competition will allow you to become collective trendsetters in what will be the coming year's sought-after Balayage looks.

The competition has two categories

• Wella Stockists (use only Wella Professional products)

• Non-Wella Stockists (will receive a box of Wella Professional products to create the look)

Both categories will receive the same set of rules to create the looks with a few exceptions which you'll find on the website.

The #gameofwella competition was inspired by a TrendVision category launched in early 2020.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 the National TrendVision Award was cancelled. However, we wanted to allow stylists the opportunity to compete in an exciting, local competition.

It's important to note that #gameofwella is specific to Modern Hair & Beauty and has no affiliation to the TrendVision Award.

This competition will be exclusive to Instagram, and stylists will be judged on the before/after images they post on the platform - International Top Artists will judge the looks.

For a full list of prizes, the do's and don'ts and the Rules & Regulations for both Wella and non-Wella stylists you can view the Modern Hair & Beauty website.

Hair Language

The Wella Hair Language describes what a Wella Balayage is and what it's not. We're looking for light and dark placement that accentuates the model's natural beauty. The look should be premium yet commercial and can be natural or slightly dramatic.

A premium Balayage is reliant on technique to make it look effortless. Think soft transitions from dark to light. Make sure that the colour enhances the model's natural colour and features - choosing the correct colour palette is very important.
