Barbercraft SA - Meet The Battle Judges!

On Sunday 18 November, Barbercraft will be taking place at the Kasteel van de Goede Hoop, Cape Town, from 9 am onwards.

The event will include the Battle of the Barbers, Look and Learn sessions with barbering icons, an expo, and the battle competition, including categories The Beard, The Shave, The Classic, The Pattern and The Creative. Qualified barbers who enter three or more categories will be eligible for the Barber of the Year Award and the fantastic cash prize of R10,000.

Glen Summers

From working as a DJ, Glen Summers took up hairdressing after a friend suggested it. He started his career with Carlton Hair, and the rest is history. “My interest in barbering started when i got on the floor as a junior stylist as most of my clientele were males. This was when I saw that gents hairdressing was more my route to go. Barbering to me is such an amazing craft. Today I travel the country as a educator for one of the fastest growing franchises and I get to inspire and nurture up and coming barbers.

Shafiek Ganief

Shafiek started barbering after his barber joked that he will teach me to become a barber, not knowing that he had cancer and wanted to pass his skills on to someone. He passed his trade test in June 2016, and loves teaching / passing the trade on to young entrepreneurs. His advice to contestants is to familiarize yourself with the requirements of the category you are competing in, understand what the judges are looking for and enjoy!

Jody Botma

From “butchering” friends and families hair in the back garden when he was 14, Jody progressed in his career, to be accepted into a London salon. Returning to SA, he made men’s hair his speciality. “I love working in the barber shop, a place where your clients often become your friends. Barbering is kicking off massively now in South Africa. I have recently started Barbers of S.A., a platform for barbers to showcase & refine their talents in mens hair. Currently we do educational look and learn sessions in Cape Town and Johannesburg.”

Suzaan Saayman

Founder of FAME Systems, Qualified Stylist and International Hairdressing Moderator for City and Guilds, Suzaan has 18 years experience in the Hair & Barber industry. She is a barbering enthusiast and educator, who drives the company’s vision of 'Keep filling your creative tank with inspiration to keep the journey going'."

Shaughn Adams

A third generation hairstylist, Shaughn started his salon IMAGE AND HAIR in Observatory 21 years ago after returning from working in Europe. A Wella Master Colourist, TV and celebrity stylist, Shaughn has styled the hair for the Miss South Africa pageant. Shaughn is currently the Chairperson for the EOHCB (employers organization for hairdressing, cosmetology and beauty) in the Western Cape.

Pieter Neethling

With 30 years’ experience in the hairdressing industry, Pieter has a love for hair and beautifying people, making them look and feel their best. His tip for the BarberCraft Battle entrants is to plan and execute the look that you have assessed.
